CTMES Conference and AGM: Register Now!!!

Dear CTMES Members:

After challenges due to COVID lockdowns, we finally have the opportunity to gather together for the first time in three years. There are a number of changes coming for CTMES over the coming year as we look to refreshing our Executive team and appointing a new Executive Director, not to mention the ongoing changes in the tertiary education sector. We also have great key note sessions at our conference that are highly applicable to theological education on 2023 and beyond.

This is a reminder to register for upcoming CTMES Conference and AGM on the 21st April 2023


CTMES 2023 Conference

The CTMES Conference will be held on Friday 21 April 2023 at the Salvation Army Auckland City Corps, 18 Allright Place, Mt Wellington, Auckland. The Conference starts at 10:00 am and concludes at 4.30pm. The fee for the Conference is $50.00 per person and payment will be on receipt of an invoice. The Conference Agenda 10.00am Networking and morning tea 10.30am Prayer and Welcome by the Chair 10.45am Session 1: Keynote Speaker #1 – Dr Stephen Garner 12.00pm Lunch 12.45pm Session 2: Discussion on Keynote #1 1.45pm Annual General Meeting 2.30pm Session 3: Keynote Speaker #2 – Bradford Haami 3.15pm Afternoon Tea 3.45pm Session 4: Panel Discussion on Keynote #2 4.30pm Close Registration information will be available shortly. In the meantime, please note this date and pass the information to staff members and interested parties. The conference will be especially useful to staff and stakeholders. Our keynote speakers will address:

  1. Wrestling with Artificial Intelligence, e.g. ChatGPT, and how this will change the teaching and learning process.

  2. Honouring the Treaty/Ti Tiriti and how this affects the operation of our colleges and what insights can we gain on how to engage well when consulting with iwi and hapu. If you or someone in your college has had experience in working successfully with hapu and iwi and would be prepared to be part of the panel discussion in Session 4, please let us know as we are looking for 2-3 people to join Brad on this panel.


Notice of CTMES AGM

The CTMES Chair, Michael Hanson, and the Executive Committee, wish to formally notify you of the date and time of the Annual General Meeting for 2023. This is in accordance with the requirements of the CTMES Constitution, Rule 7.1.3, to remind members by mail or email thirty days in advance of the meeting. AGM The Annual General Meeting will be held at 1:45pm to 2.30pm on Friday 21st April 2023, at the Salvation Army Auckland City Corps, 18 Allright Place, Mt Wellington, Auckland. The AGM is during the Annual CTMES Conference, held on the same day. The Agenda of the AGM will be as follows: 1. Welcome 2. Apologies 3. Minutes of the 2022 AGM 4. Matters Arising 5. Chair Report & Exec Farewells 6. Financial Report 7. Budget for 2023 8. Election of Executive 9. Other Business Other Business Any appropriate business is to be submitted electronically to the Executive Committee at no later than 15 days prior to the holding of the Annual General Meeting. All submissions are to be made no later than 6 April 2023.

Call to CTMES Executive Nominations

This is a formal call for nominations to the Executive Committee commencing during the AGM. The Executive Committee is a committee of no less than five and no more than seven people elected by members at the AGM. In accordance with the Constitution, Rule 3 (3.3), Executive Committee members will hold office for three years on a rotational basis, and will be eligible for re-election without re-nomination. The Executive advises that Edwige Fava and Steve Graham have resigned. David Wardle is retiring and will not be seeking re-election. Sue Davidson is eligible for re-election. There are up to five vacancies to be filled. Members are invited to nominate persons for election to the Executive Committee. To nominate, please complete the Nomination Form. Nominations must be received no later than 13 April 2023. Elections will take place at the AGM on Friday 21 April 2023. The results of the election will be announced at the AGM following the counting of votes. NOTE: In addition, nominees are to include a short biography, key interests and may provide a brief written statement stating what specific skills and experience they will bring to the Executive Committee (250 words maximum). AGM Voting

The Executive Committee advises that voting will retain the same format as previously, which is as follows: According to the relevant rules in the Constitution, section 7.3 Voting, generally issues will be decided by consensus but where Society issues need to be resolved by voting the following will apply: 7.3.1 Each institution has three votes, and one additional vote for every 50 EFTS, up to a maximum of 20% of the total votes at any one time. 7.3.2 If a vote is necessary for Executive Committee members each voter will indicate their preference for candidates up to the number required to fill the vacancies. Selection will be made on the basis of the highest polling candidates up to the number required to fill the vacancies. 7.3.3 Acceptance of a motion will require 60% of the votes of members present at the meeting except for a motion to change the constitution or for liquidation which will require a 75% majority. 7.3.4 A member may delegate their proxy to another member provided the notice of proxy is registered in writing with the Chairperson or Executive Secretary twenty-four hours before the stated time of commencement of the meeting for which the proxy applies. 7.3.5 A quorum consists of 12 voting members, including proxies. The Executive Committee advises that each college’s EFTS need to be collected prior to the AGM. EFTS are to be calculated for Theological and Ministry provision, Levels 1 – 10, according to the SDR or equivalent Student Management System, for both domestic and international students, and that institutions are to explain clearly the EFTS consumption of the Christian ministry content. Some colleges offer other areas of study in addition to Theology and/or Christian Ministry and it is not expected that such colleges pay subscription rates for areas of study that are not Christian studies. Ballot papers will be provided at the time of voting at the AGM.
