This is a reminder of the rescheduled Annual General Meeting which will be held on Thursday 13th July 2023, 10:30am - 12 noon at Carey Baptist College, 473 Great South Road, Penrose, Auckland 1062.
Come from 10am to meet over kai (morning tea) and coffee and re-connect with colleagues and friends from other institutions.
There will also be an opportunity for an informal Q&A session at the conclusion of the AGM, facilitated by Rob Ayres, Deputy Chair. There are a number of important things affecting our sector at the moment, from WDCs to honouring ti Tiriti to AI, and this is an opportunity to discuss these together. Come with your questions!

Nominations Received for the vacancies on the CTMES Exec
We are grateful to four candidates who have put their names forward for election to the CTMES Exec during the AGM. There are up to five vacancies to be filled. Below are their names and short bios.
Andrew Ayles - Director of Faculty and Programs at Alphacrucis College New Zealand
Born in Zimbabwe, Andrew has been in New Zealand since 1999, initially in the hospitality industry, then moving into the tertiary education sector in 2004. He has held a number of different roles from teaching at certificate, diploma and degree levels, as well as quality assurance,
organizational operations, campus facilities, online delivery and academic management.
Andrew is passionate about seeing students succeed in their chosen careers or areas of study, he always gets a buzz when he is greeted by one of his ex-students, seeing them gainfully employed and making a difference. To be involved as the Director of Faculty and Programs in the Christian education sector is an amazing opportunity to help in equipping Christian leaders to change the world.
Andrew enjoys pottering in the garden, the workshop or the kitchen keep him busy outside of
work, as does a country drive on a sunny Sunday afternoon after church.

Joy Hooker - Programme Development Manager at Elim Leadership College
I had the privilege of growing up in a Christian family, and have a varied background that includes working in a corporate environment, business ownership and church ministry leadership.
Gaining a Bachelor in Applied Theology, Master of Theology and a Graduate Diploma in Tertiary Education, I have been working as Programme Development Manager at Elim Leadership College (ELC) for the last 11 years. I led the restructure of ELC’s programmes as a result of TRoQ, creating and developing effective programmes for levels 3 to 6. As a member of ELC’s Leadership Team I have contributed to decision making as we have navigated our way through the up’s and down’s of the past few years.
I am passionate about God’s Word and enjoy creating resources that enable people to move forward into new areas of understanding and practice. I am committed to equipping the body of Christ for maturity and enjoy collaborating with others to bring this about.

Leeana Kukutai is the National Director of Alphacrucis College New Zealand and is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God New Zealand. She is an itinerate pastor at Nga Puna Wai o te Ora ki Ooamero Paa, Waikato, and serves on Assemblies of God Missions, Fearless Movement, Māori, and Asia Pacific Theological Association Accreditation Councils. Leeana holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a master’s degree in Applied
Indigenous Knowledge. Furthermore, Leeana is passionate to equip and empower Christian
leaders to change the world locally in Aotearoa and globally. She has worked in Uganda as a
missionary since 2007 and partnered alongside local Ugandan pastors and authorities to
establish four primary schools in Kampala and nearby villages, to provide safe education to
impoverished areas to give a hope and a future. Leeana is of Ngāti Māhanga Hourua and Ngāti Tipa descent and loves surfing at her home break in Whaingaroa (Raglan). Mauri ora!
Phil Newman - COO at Laidlaw College
Phil is the Chief Operating Officer of Laidlaw College, having joined the organisation in July 2021. As part of the leadership team, he supports the ongoing development of Laidlaw College across strategy, people leadership, systems improvement, business management and the delivery of programmes. This involves working across the organisation, enabling teams to be the best they can be, and finding new ways to collaborate so that Laidlaw grows and develops into the future. Phil is deeply committed to the strengthening of Christian leaders and the role of higher education in forming people and organisations to fulfil Gospel imperatives in our communities.
Phil has a B.A. in Social Anthropology and International Development from Massey
University, a Diploma in Financial Services from Deakin University and was previously a
Certified Financial Planner.
Phil’s work background combines financial services, business experience, international NGO
programme implementation, organisational leadership, and relationship management.
With experience working internationally and locally in not-for-profit governance and
leadership roles, Phil has been CE of Transparency International Australia and Director of
Programmes, Tearfund NZ and was the Kaitohutohu Matua | Chief Advisor | Pou
Whakahaere | Manager Open Government with Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service
Commission. In December 2021, Phil joined the Board of World Vision New Zealand. Phil is
a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and the international Chief of Staff
Association.
Phil and his wife Suzie have lived in Australia and Vietnam and now reside in Titirangi. They
attend Titirangi Baptist Church. They enjoy international travel, walking Auckland (soon
with dogs) and, renovating their home and bush property.
